Show Review

Your innermost thoughts revealed

By Caroline Fontein

So you’re not a big talker. Well, that doesn’t mean anything to Luke Jermay, a mind reader whose unique performances feature demonstrations of psychological technique, mind control and perceptual manipulation.

In Jermay’s show Mental at O’Sheas he amazes people by revealing details about them that some of their closest friends might not even know. This interactive show experience will have you wondering, how did he know that?

Before entering the theater each guest is given a numbered card where they are asked to write their name, birth date and one detail about themselves. After everyone is seated, all the cards are collected in a basket and Jermay enters the stage. He takes the basket and hands it to a guest in the front row proving that there is no way he could look at or manipulate the cards.

He refers to the cards as permission slips. Throughout the show he’ll ask the guest holding the basket to pull out a card and tell Jermay the number on it. The person with that number is asked to stand and Jermay begins his work.

“How often have you wondered what your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife was really thinking?” questions Jermay.

Next, he asks three women in the audience to stand. Just by looking at them he is able to reveal their zodiac signs and details about their personality. Their friends in the audience laugh and nudge each other acknowledging that everything Jermay is saying is true.

The intimate theater setting is perfect for this type of show. There are not a lot of production elements. Instead it’s just Jermay interacting with audience members and astonishing them with his incredible ability to read minds.

Later, in the show that was attended, he asked one man to stand and just by looking at him he revealed that the man was a football player, was in the military and had a knee surgery. Next he announced the names of the man’s four children.

Jermay asks another man in the audience to stand and describes how the guy has regrets about moving from Mexico where he could have had a career as a pro soccer player. People sit surprised and impressed as Jermay seems to pluck bits of information about perfect strangers from thin air.

As the show progresses Jermay gives the audience some insight into his talent.

“There’s nothing supernatural or psychic about what I do,” says Jermay.

He explains that he is able to read people by using five non-senses, a skill that anyone can master.

Jermay grew up in London where he honed his skills at people reading at a young age. He has written more than 40 books on the subject including “3510,” “Coral Fang” and “Building Blocks.” Noted by many as an authority in the world of Mentalism, Jermay considers himself to be a ‘psychological illusionist.’ His goal is to evoke the same feeling you experience during a magic show with his incredible ability to read people.

Mixing the worlds of mind reading, non-verbal communication and storytelling, Jermay's synergy creates an astoundingly unique performance. Audience members will laugh, gasp and be amazed.
